What Happens Next? 8 Things To Do After Getting Engaged

Congratulations! You just got engaged to the love of your life and are probably having the ultimate “pinch-me” moment right now.

But before you get carried away and the reality of wedding planning starts to kick in – here are 10 things to do to prepare yourself for the next chapter of your life.

After all, getting engaged is really just the beginning.

#1: SOAK IT ALL IN.

It’s hard not to feel overwhelmed by one of the happiest moments of your life – it doesn’t hurt to spend a few (or more) moments to simply stop and admire your gorgeous diamond engagement rings!

Take your new bling out for a ride and celebrate with some good food, wine and company! Wedding planning is about to take over your life, so be sure to plan a get-together with your closest friends and family to celebrate the milestone and revel in the moment.

#2: SHARE THE GOOD NEWS WITH EVERYONE ELSE!

After celebrating with your favourites – it’s time to break the news to everyone else and have them sharing a piece of the happiness!

Take plenty of pictures to commemorate this special and blessed moment – whether you plan to keep the details private and remain low-key, the decision is ultimately up to you!

#3: GO WEDDING BAND SHOPPING!

It’s time to go shopping for the actual wedding bands – important factors to consider include the size, design, price and quality.

Apart from the 4Cs that are typically used to determine a diamond’s characteristics, our rings are designed to encapsulate another important C – confidence. The best rings are those that hold special meaning, and crafted based on a stringent set of criteria in order to bring out the diamond’s true beauty. The LVC Promise Collection is the epitome of forever more, shaped and polished using a complicated 21-step process that mimics the same unconditional effort and attention needed to build an everlasting union.

Note: custom wedding bands will take a longer time to design and craft, so do factor that into your timeline as well.

#4: COME UP WITH A TIMELINE AND TO-DO LIST.

The average engagement lasts 15 months – set some timelines for you to keep track of your most important “deadlines”, including finalizing the details of your dress, confirming the RSVP list, vendor confirmations and so on.

Staying organised is key to wedding planning – give yourself plenty of time to work on any D.I.Y projects that can help you save some extra money!

#5: PICK A DATE!

This is one of the most important things to decide in order to determine the pace for the entire planning process. To ensure you get all the elements right and leave plenty of time for any human error – most couples tend to give themselves a year to plan the wedding after the initial engagement.

It’s good to have at least 2 to 3 potential dates in mind, and do consider your guest list – taking into account the must-haves at your wedding and making sure those dates aren’t already blocked out.

Good to know: the peak seasons of weddings in Singapore are March, May, June, July, September, November and December. So, plan accordingly, as everything will more likely be more expensive and harder to book.

#6: START RESEARCHING AND GATHERING IDEAS.

Yes, while diamonds are a girl’s best friend – Pinterest and Instagram are probably the next ones in line for a bride-to-be.

Compile a list of ideas and inspiration that can help guide you in your planning – just make sure that you don’t end up with too many choices! Look out for the most common themes and colours in your list – it can be really helpful in removing those wedding planning roadblocks.

#7: SET A WEDDING BUDGET.

Alas, the part that most brides probably dread – setting the wedding budget.

You should roughly have a price range that you are both comfortable with, and figure out your priorities as laid out in #2. According to a study conducted, the average total cost of getting married in Singapore ranges from $33,000 to $76,000. Remember to leave some wiggle room for any miscellaneous expenses that might pop up later.

Budget items that are going to take up a huge chunk of your budget include the wedding dress, venue, food catering, wedding rings, vendors and photography.

#8: CONSIDER ALL THE ELEMENTS OF YOUR WEDDING.

The best way to go about handling the specifics is to first decide on an overarching theme, and prepare a preliminary guest list to get a rough estimate of how big of a space you need.

Then, most couples move on to book and secure the wedding venue, with the rest of the factors largely falling into place after – whether you have dreamed of a rustic vineyard wedding, or a chic urban affair at a rooftop – it’s up to you to decorate and execute on those visions and Pinterest ideas!

More importantly, you will want to focus on booking vendors early, such as the caterer, entertainment, planner and photographer. You will also want to make sure that you got your wedding jewellery sorted at least 3 to 4 months prior to the ceremony to avoid any last-minute changes.

WHAT NOW?

Just like how your wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event – so is wedding planning (thank god for that!). So, why not make the best of it? Now that you have this simple checklist to follow, head into the next chapter of your life feeling a little more confident knowing that you got your wedding planning all under wraps!
