Diamond Knowledge
Definition of Carat
Carat refers to the weight of a diamond, not its size. It is a unique measurement of weight specifically used for measuring diamonds and gemstones.
Conversion Ratio:
1 Carat = 0.2 Grams
Total Carat Weight
When a piece of jewellery contains more than one gemstone, Total Carat Weight is a phrase used to represent the total weight of all gemstones in that specific piece of jewellery. For example, the total carat weight quoted for a pair of diamond earrings would include the diamonds used in both earrings.

How Carat Weight Affects Price
Larger diamonds are much more valuable because they are harder to find naturally as compared to smaller diamonds. The price increments for diamonds are exponential, not linear.
For instance, a 1.00 carat diamond has a higher value as compared to two 0.50 carat diamonds of the same quality.
