Caring for Your Diamonds
Maintain the shine of your jewelleryLearn How
Taking Care Of Your Diamonds Is Not DifficultHere are a few of Love and Co's tips for maintaining the shine of your precious diamond memories. - Try not to use perfume or lotions when wearing your diamond as oil and alcohol can alter the way your diamond looks. - Clean your diamond regularly. - Never use chlorine or abrasive solutions when cleaning diamonds as these can erode the metal and loosen the prongs holding your diamond secure. - Don't wear it when you're doing rough work or going to the gym. Even though a diamond is durable, it can be chipped by a hard blow. - Don't leave your ring on the rim of a sink when you remove it to wash your hands. It can easily slip down the drain.
Storing Your DiamondsThere is a misconception about diamonds being the hardest material on earth and should therefore be able to handle rough treatment with no damage. Diamonds are durable, no doubt, but because of their hardness, diamonds can end up scratching other diamonds, gemstones and jewelry metals. This is the most common way jewelry is damaged, during storage. For this reason, store all jewelry, especially diamond jewelry, in individual soft cloth pouches when not being worn. lf you prefer to use ordinary boxes, wrap each piece individually in tissue paper.
How To Clean Diamond JewelleryAll you need is a toothbrush with soft bristles, soap, water and a cloth. Soak the diamond in an ammonia-based household cleaner (such as window cleaner) overnight. In the morning, brush the diamond with a soft, clean toothbrush gently to remove any leftover dirt. Take extra care to brush the back of the diamond as this will be the area that has collected the most oil and dirt. Finally, rinse it thoroughly with clean water before drying it with a soft cloth.
