Diamond Care
Diamonds may not have a shelf-life, yet they are one of the hardest natural substances on Earth. In fact, a diamond can remain its brilliance and sparkle even after a long period of time. That is due to their stable inert chemical structure. However, despite it being one of the hardest materials on Earth, diamonds are not invincible. In fact, they are prone to cracking, chipping and any physical damage if not properly taken care of.
Here are some pointers to take note of when taking care of your diamond:
Handle your Diamond Carefully
Though many might choose to prioritise the diamond when it comes to care and maintenance, it is important to note that the setting of the ring should not be neglected too. Depending on the type of material, daily usage can lead to eventual wear and tear.
As diamonds are natural magnets for grease, it is important to avoid touching your diamonds with greasy or oily hands. Grease and oil can affect a diamond’s brilliance and fire, making it look less shiny than before.
Clean your Diamond Regularly
A good tip to keep your diamond jewellery looking clean and sparkling is to soak it once or twice a week in a gentle degreasing solution – such as water with a few drops of mild dish soap.Once done, use a soft, clean toothbrush to remove any remaining dirt on the diamond. The toothbrush should be new and reserved exclusively for cleaning your jewellery. Softly brush the hard-to-reach nooks and crannies – such as the back of the diamond, which tends to collect the most layer of oils, debris and cosmetic residue.
Be Gentle
Always use a soft touch toothbrush to gently clean your diamond. Rinse the diamond with water and wipe it with a soft lint-free cloth. Do not use harmful solutions. If you are working over a sink, make sure to close the drain.
Using Ultrasonic Cleaners
Ultrasonics are great devices when it comes to cleaning and removing dirt and stains on diamond surfaces. These devices work by sending high frequency sound waves thorough cleaning solutions (for example, water with a drop of dish soap). The solution will then vibrate, thus removing dirt and stains on the diamond surface.
While this device might not be easily accessible at home, you may still head down to our nearest showroom to get complimentary ring cleaning sessions by our retail professionals.
